"Exxon Mobil has discontinued manufacturing Nebula EP (NEP) greases, used in the nuclear power industry to lubricate the main gearbox of Limitorque motor-operated valve (MOV) actuators. Analytical tests were performed to compare the critical characteristics of NEP and MOVLL greases under normal, high-temperature, and irradiated conditions and to evaluate the compatibility of the two greases. Results demonstrated that MOVLL performed as well as of better the NEP in essentially all respects, and mixtures of MOVLL with Nebula tended to perform as well as or better than pure Nebula. These findings will allow utilities to use MOVLL in place of NEP and to top off Limitorque main gearboxes currently greased with NEP."
